Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from March of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

His retrieving approach and recurring emotional displays on court had caused commentators to question if his ability to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour title, gained dominance to push for a decider.

The opponent saved four early opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
